Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic borough. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.
Over the last decade, Hackney has benefited from one of the biggest and most ambitious schools building and regeneration programmes in the country. It has seen us invest nearly GBP1/2 billion in creating new primary schools and academies, as well as the refurbishment and re???build of all our secondary schools.
We need to continue to invest in our schools estate to ensure it provides safe, suitable, sufficiently spacious environments in which our young people can flourish.
The Education Property Team oversees approximately 70 education sites in the Borough, delivering a range of investment to maintain and improve the estate, and provide the new school places Hackney needs to keep pace with demographic demand.
Hackney has invested significantly in its schools, in spite of decreases in the overall level of capital funding from central government. This investment ranges from the relatively inexpensive, but complex, maintenance of existing buildings, through to providing new secondary schools. It involves a wide variety of facilities, from Victorian School Board buildings, to award-winning Building Schools for the Future designs, to mixed use developments that combine schools and residential housing. The team also oversees the facilities management contract for the secondary and SEN school estate, ensuring that the quality of service meets contractual requirements.
The team must liaise with a range of stakeholders, including Council colleagues in Planning, Procurement, Regeneration, Highways, as well as within the Hackney Learning Trust. We work closely with the Heads and Governors of our maintained schools, and liaise with parents and local residents on the delivery of our projects.
You will lead the team of four responsible for delivering the annual maintenance works for the maintained schools estate, currently c. GBP5m p.a., but expected to increase. You will also oversee the day to day delivery of school expansions, and other strategic work programmes.
You will also manage the team of two that manages the FM contract delivered by the Council's Local Education Partnership to the secondary and SEN estate, ensuring the service provider meets the requisite service standards.
You will provide line management to a team of six Council officers, delivering key projects and managing contracts that contribute to the effective operation of Hackney's schools estate.
You will be comfortable with reporting, verbally and in writing, to a variety of stakeholders, including officers, members, Headteachers, governors and parents.
