The Council of the City of Ripon are seeking to appoint a City Development Manager to take up the appointment in the spring of 2012.
The successful applicant will have a proven track record in marketing the visitor economy, and experience in the field of commercial/retail business would be an advantage. The role of the Development Manager is to ensure the realisation of the City's vision, policies and programmes with the major priority to develop Ripon’s existing USP's, and to work towards a more robust retail economy.

A major task will be the development of the City (Neighbourhood) Plan which will require working with strategic partners including GRIP, Harrogate Borough Council, North Yorkshire County Council, Ripon Chamber of Trade, Ripon Civic Society, and other institutions to realise Ripon’s collective ambition to be North Yorkshire’s Capital of Culture and City of Enterprise.

The job is challenging and is a new post, the most senior appointment in the Public Sector in Ripon. Tenacity, enthusiasm and stamina are some of the essential qualities needed. Candidates will need to have experience of writing and delivering business plans, accessing external funding, working with a broad group of stakeholders and have the ability to communicate effectively with senior officers in the private and public sectors.
The salary will be commensurate with the successful candidates experience with a threshold of £40K and the Manager will report to the City Council via the Mayor in the first instance who will also act as the Manager's line manager. The post is for three years initially with an option to extend.

The Appointee will work with a number of non Local Government organisations based both within and outside of the city. Direct contact with the two higher tiers of Local Government, in this instance Harrogate Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council will also be necessary.
