Hours: 36 per week, 52 weeks
Day Shift Position: One Position
- Week One - Monday to Friday - 07:00 - 15:00
- Week Two - Monday to Friday - 11:00 - 19:00
Night shift Position: Four Positions
- Week One - Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday - 19:00 - 07:00.
- Week Two - Saturday and Sunday - 07:00 - 19:00 (Day Shift)
Week Three - Wednesday and Thursday - 19:00 - 07:00.
As a Security Officer with the City of Edinburgh Council, you'll play a crucial role in protecting our buildings, colleagues and communities. Working within the Facilities Management service, you'll provide a visible, professional security presence across a wide range of Council properties - Including corporate offices, civic buildings, schools, community centres and operational depots.
Your work will help ensure that our buildings remain safe, secure and welcoming places for staff, visitors and the public. You'll be part of a dedicated team delivering static guarding, mobile patrols, alarm response and control-room monitoring, all while upholding the highest standards of customer care and public service.

Major Tasks/Job Activities
- Provide high-visibility static guarding and mobile security responses across Council properties.
- Act as a key holder, including attending alarm activations and security buildings.
- Conduct regular patrols in line with Assignment instructions.
- Monitor CCTV and alarm systems for the Security Control Room, tasking mobile units as required.
- Investigate incidents and complete accurate log entries, reports and daily occurrence records.
- Manage visitor access, issue passes and support key-management procedures.
- Respond to enquiries from staff, contractors and members of the public.
- Report defects, health and safety concerns and equipment issues through the appropriate channels.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, safety and customer care at all times.

Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes
You'll bring a professional capability and personal qualities needed to keep people and properties safe.
This includes:
- Significant experience working in a security environment
- Strong working knowledge of CCTV, access control, alarms and security systems
- Ability to respond effectively to incidents, alarms, evacuations and emergency situations.
- Confident in completing accurate records, logs and reports.
- Good IT skills, including use of Microsoft Outlook and Word.
- Excellent communication and customer-care skills
- Calmness, professionalism and resilience in challenging situations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Flexibility, adaptability and strong organisational skills
- A Collaborative approach, working effectively with colleagues, contractors and the public.
Essential Qualifications and Knowledge
- Valid SIA Licence (Door Supervisor or equivalent)
- Clean full driving licence and ability to obtain a CEC driving permit
- Good standard of written and spoken English
- Knowledge of CCTV codes of practice, Data Protection, Fire Procedures and Health and Safety.
This position is Standard Disclosure Check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
