Head of Strategy and Communications

Salary: Up to £74,630

Stoke-on-Trent is an ambitious city, home to great opportunities for residents and businesses, with significant investment in our town centres, in new housing developments, upgrading the railway station and new employment sites. We are a place of growing national reputation, with the Government choosing the city as the home of the newly created Office for Place as well as the Home Office choosing the city as a place to invest and locate. However, we are not without our challenges, and our new Corporate Strategy will see a renewed focus on wellbeing to create shared wealth and prosperity, and which focuses on people and organisations working together to reduce inequality. We have a creative and industrious heritage, and it is our passion and community focus that will enable us to transform the fortunes of the city. Next year, we celebrate our centenary marking 100 years since we were given official city status by King George V. “The Potteries” will be a place of celebration and recognised for its cultural significance within the ceramics industry.

Our new Head of Strategy and Communications will play a key role in developing a service that galvanises our residents, communities, partners and colleagues in our shared goals. Working with the senior leadership team, and particularly the City Director, Leader of the Council and Cabinet, your marketing and communications plans will engage and inform residents, supporting them in understanding the change that is underway in the city, promote connection with the many opportunities available, and empower communities to be part of our city’s future. We have incredible stories to tell, but we need the right leadership and expertise to bring those stories to life, whilst balancing the issues that affect the people of Stoke-on-Trent on a daily basis.

We are looking for an exceptional leader to be part of a dynamic senior leadership team that is committed to finding solutions to the city’s big issues. You will thrive from the satisfaction and pride of making a real impact and delivering the best possible outcomes for our residents.  Our new Corporate Strategy marks the move to a more preventative model of delivery, creating more resilient local communities and reducing the level of demand on public services. We need an energetic, flexible and resilient individual who can demonstrate an exceptional track record of delivery within a fast-paced environment. This post is critical to the success of the organisation and is a key part of the engine room that will enable our transformation journey to continue.
