Tormead School is a leading academically selective independent school for 800 girls aged 4-18 in Guildford, just 40 minutes from London.

Role Overview

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Director-in-Residence to join our thriving Drama Department. This is a rare opportunity for a graduate or early-career theatre professional with a background in Drama, Theatre, Performance or a related discipline to build experience in an ambitious school setting while developing their own creative practice.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Head of Drama to support teaching, rehearsals, productions and the wider creative programme.
  • Direct or co direct school productions from audition to performance, gaining hands on experience shaping work from concept to final curtain.
  • Support practical lessons and examinations, working closely with students to develop performance skills, technical understanding and confidence on stage and behind the scenes.
  • Contribute to stage management, lighting, sound, costume and set planning, organise resources and support day to day administration of the department.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate or early career theatre professional with a background in Drama, Theatre, Acting or a closely related subject.
  • Secure grounding in performance and a developing understanding of directing live work.
  • Strong enthusiasm for working with children and young people.
  • Organised, adaptable, energetic, warm, professional and committed to every aspect of the role.

Part-time (20-30 hours per week), fixed term only - flexible patterns arranged to meet the needs of the School and the successful candidate where possible.
