The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

?? Wedgewood House is part of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, Children's Specialist Services. The home provides short break care for children & young people with disabilities and complex health needs.

The main aim of the Home is to help children with disabilities remain in their own home and community, by providing social care support to the children and their families.

?? Short break care can include a variety of different Care Packages, depending on individual need. These include overnight, tea visits and weekend/holiday day care.

?? Wedgewood House offers the opportunity for the children to mix and socialise with friends and peers, experience a range of activities as well as providing care and stimulation, in a safe environment.

?? The children and young people who access Wedgewood House are aged between 5-18 years old. All have a learning disability and many of the children and young people have physical disabilities with additional complex health needs, sensory needs and or Autistic Spectrum Condition; requiring additional specialist training support for the staff team delivered through the School Specialist Nursing Team.

?? Most of the children and young people have use of a wheelchair, although some are mobile and able to walk short distances with assistance. Many of the children use specialist equipment to aid seating, posture, communication, stimulation, feeding and personal care.

You will be required to have/be able to:

?? A relevant qualification: Level 4 diploma or equivalent (see job profile) and the commitment to undertake and achieve the Level 5 diploma within a specified time scale.

?? Must have at least 4 years experience within a setting working with children and young people with disabilities, preferably a residential setting, one of which must be in a supervisory capacity.

?? The requirement to be available to work flexibly, including the possibility of unsociable hours and shifts, occasionally including weekend and bank holiday working. This may also include supporting children and young people on overnight trips, sometimes at short notice. You may also be required to undertake waking nights or sleep in duties at short notice.

?? You will be required to contribute towards the management of the rota, working with the Registered Manager to ensure staff are appropriately deployed to provide safe levels of staffing to support the children and young people at all times.

?? In support of the Manager, ensuring the short break home provides a comprehensive childcare service for children and young people with disabilities and complex health needs

?? Supporting the manager of the home to ensure that a secure and stable environment is provided which will enable children and young people to develop their full potential.

This could include working in a variety of settings. This further includes liaising with

OFSTED when necessary, ensuring they are made aware of relevant issues regarding the care and welfare of the children and young people.

?? Providing inspirational leadership and leading by example to enable staff to support children and young people by embracing Bradford's 'Model of Care' and by using these principles to improve the outcomes of children and young people with disabilities, to enable them to reach their full potential.

This post will be recruited via the Warner process, which means there will be a safeguarding interview as well as a formal interview and extensive checks.
