Assistant Residential Team Manager

GBP34,688 per annum for 36 hours per week based in Cobham.

About the role

Surrey Residential Homes accommodate children up to 18 years of age. Due to legal requirements set out by the DFE national minimum standards the successful applicant is required to be at least 4 years older than our oldest accommodated child, therefore the minimum age for application would be twenty-two years.

All of our homes are inspected regularly by OFSTED and most have been judged as either 'Good', 'Outstanding' or are working towards this. Therefore we are very proud of the quality of our residential services for children in Surrey. As a result we have invested in our homes and staff and plan to continue to do this, in order to achieve a service that is ambitious, innovative and responsive to the needs of young people in our care.

Are you an experienced childcare practitioner? A leader, with experience managing staff working with challenging young people? Can you shape and influence others' practice, ensuring practitioners receive reflective and explorative supervision to enable them to build relationships with children, young people and their families to create change? Do you understand of the risk factors for young people and experience with Looked After children?

Do you have the ability co-ordinate and prioritize tasks, whilst finding creative solutions in an often-challenging environment. You will need to be a role model for staff to learn from and maintain a high degree of personal authority, initiative and autonomy.

Faircroft Children's Home looks after a small group of young people generally aged between 12-16 years old who have experienced challenging and traumatic life events. The home aims to offer a safe and stable placement, where our young people's immediate needs can be identified and addressed through the process of building meaningful relationships, creating, maintaining child focused routines, whilst holding boundaries that promote their welfare, support their development and encourage our young people to enjoy and achieve. Through the use of Restorative Practice and Promoting Positive Behavior within in our daily practice, the home aims to develop a holistic understanding of our young people to inform long term care planning.

We are looking for someone with experience of working in a Children's Home and who has managerial and supervisory experience to deliver high standards of care, leadership and safeguarding to children and young people. Successful candidates will be confident, work well to their own initiative, possess excellent communication skills, be a good decision maker and have the ability to develop staff to their full potential.

This position requires the successful candidate to undertake operational duties such as overseeing the day to day management of the home, administrative aspects such as co-ordinating reports, policies and monitoring data. The post holder will also need to be a very self-aware and intuitive person who can work with the therapeutic aspects of our care delivery which will include assessments, supporting the emotional and physical well-being of both the young people and the team and deputize the running of the home in the Team Manager's absence in order to ensure a high standard of day to day care for the young people.

We are looking for applicants who have a good understanding of the theories of attachment, trauma and loss and how this impacts on a young person's life day to day. You will be enthusiastic, reliable and flexible and be prepared to work some unsociable hours when required and the post will require you to be part of an on-call out of hours rota.

The ATM will support the Team Manager in ensuring effective delivery of service through the team, using HR methods including recruitment, induction, training, performance appraisal, succession planning and absence management.

You will need to be a 'go to person' who is solution focused, in addressing day-to-day issues. You will be expected to represent the home at various forums such as multi agency meetings and work from a child-focused perspective at all times. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires compassion, self-awareness and maturity.

You will ideally hold a management and / or child care qualification at Diploma Level 5, above or equivalent or be prepared to achieve within two years of commencing employment. You need to have a good understanding of all relevant legislation, in particular the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards 2015.

The role also requires that you hold a current driving license and have day to day use of a car.
