Assistant Manager, Markets

If you have an interest in developing and furthering a career within the field of markets analysis, policy and regulation, this Assistant Manager role is the ideal opportunity to do so.

The CMA is the UK's world-leading government body established to make sure competition works in consumers' favour and businesses treat their customers fairly. Be it taking enforcement action against drug firms accused of overcharging the NHS, investigating concerns about hotel booking websites' practices, or conducting major studies into whether vulnerable consumers are being ripped off by certain industries, what we do really matters.

CMA's Markets Group examines markets that do not appear to be working well and uses a range of policy-based and other solutions to introduce positive changes in the interests of consumers. Recent Markets Group work has covered the funerals market, the statutory audit market, vulnerable consumers, and the 'loyalty penalty'.

As an Assistant Manager within the Markets Group, you will play a central role in supporting our markets work, working alongside government departments, regulators and other stakeholders. Specifically, you will focus on organisational aspects of markets projects including:

  • assisting in the preparation of a wide range of project documentation and management of evidence and data;
  • conducting research and analysis of information to contribute to projects; and
  • liaison with stakeholders both orally and through written communications.

You may also have the opportunity to manage staff, providing day-to-day supervision, monitoring work allocation, and supporting their training needs and overall development.

About you

To be successful, you will demonstrate at application stage strong administrative and organisational skills, with a proven background in successfully carrying analysis and research for projects, including managing data and information. You will have experience of representing organisations to stakeholders either orally or in writing, coupled with the ability to pay strict attention to detail and accuracy at all times. Experience of contributing through work as part of a team, including experience of work managing other colleagues, will round off your profile.
