About the role

We have redesigned the way we do things at Surrey and are implementing the award winning approach to statutory social work, 'Family Safeguarding', whereby we will use motivational interviewing to work with families' strengths, taking the time to understand their needs fully. In doing this we are:

  • Focused on solving problems before they escalate and offer flexible responsive support when and where it is required;
  • Recognising and meeting the needs of adults in order to reduce harm to children and
  • Building the resilience of families and communities to support each other

Overall we are aiming to align services to provide a more seamless provision to children and their families and reduce the number of case holders and managers that children come into contact with as they pass through the system from the front door, to becoming looked after.

As a Service Manager you will be required to plan, organise and manage your Family/Adolescent Safeguarding Teams, providing effective operational management and support, as required, but delegating this to your Team Managers, where required, so as to support your Assistant Director to deliver on portfolio commitments.

You will lead your area based Family Safeguarding/Adolescent service, with the overall aim of keeping as many children in need/in need of protection, safely within their family. You will champion the use of strengths-based motivational practice across your teams, and will work closely with other multi-disciplinary teams to address parental mental health, substance misuse and domestic abuse as well as other issues affecting young people and their families.

As a skilled communicator you will have the ability to work with a broad range of people, including working respectfully with children, young people and their families in a truly co-productive way that encourages them to develop their own solutions and to identify what support they require. You will consistently ensure the views, wishes and feelings of our children, young people and their families are used to inform care plans produced by your teams, ensuring that all cases are safely and efficiently managed to agreed service standards, on time and within budget. Your strong interpersonal skills will allow you to work positively with partners to deliver innovative and integrated services that provide value for money.

Your leadership skills, broad experience of working with children, and young people and specialist knowledge will ensure that your teams deliver and learn from good practice, are accountable for their work and are committed to improving outcomes.

If you have the passion and ambition that matches ours we would love to hear from you.
