In April 2019, nine local Councils merged into two to give Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council and Dorset Council a unique and exciting opportunity to create a trailblazing approach for public services.

As Director of Public Health, you will work across both new Councils and as well as leading on Public Health. You will have a key role within the System Leadership Group for our local Integrated Care System and in the delivery of the Sustainability and Transformation Plan for the whole area. There is a real commitment to close and integrated working across both Councils and partners in the wider health and care system to integrate strategies, plan together and deliver efficient joined up services for our communities.

You will be part of two new and motivated Council leadership teams. And will play a crucial role in shaping developments in public health and community services. Our collective aim is to make a real difference to the health and outcomes of residents across our large and diverse population.

The two councils are seeking a dynamic, innovative and self-motivated Director of Public Health. You will contribute at a strategic executive leadership level across both organisations as well as ensuring excellent joint working with colleagues in Public Health England and with our key local partners.  You will work across both areas to ensure that statutory public health outcomes are delivered but also that all aspects of our policy making, commissioning and delivery are contributing to improved health and well-being for all residents and communities. Working closely with both Chief Executives of the new Councils and their senior leadership teams, you will be the expert adviser on all public health matters and contribute to the leadership of both Health and Wellbeing Boards working with a wide range of political and executive leaders.

You will need a vision and passion for Public Health and public services and the ability to provide inspirational and compelling leadership across diverse areas to enable both new councils, their partners and communities to achieve their aspirations and priorities for the future.
