About the role
The Head of Environment reports into Jason Russell, Executive Director for Community Protection, Transport & Environment.
Working together with Jason and the senior leadership team you will be leading on the development and implementation of operational plans that feed into Surrey County Council's organisational strategy.
This will entail strategic thinking to better our services and drive forward positive change whilst working with stakeholders and directorates to ensure the approach is both customer focused and cost effective. By providing professional leadership to the team, you will champion organisational change and encourage your team to be part of the transformative journey and be curious with their continuous improvement ideas to achieve our vision together as one team.
The post holder is responsible for a range of services. These include managing the countryside estate and rights of way network, delivering the council's planning and transport development functions and the council's responsibilities as the Waste Disposal Authority. There will be a strong focus on strategy development and delivering significant savings and transformation activity relating to the council's waste function and management and commercialisation of the countryside estate. A key priority for the role will also be leading a new commissioning and delivery model within the service aligned to the council's strategic outcomes.
