GBP44,838 per annum for 36 hours per week. This team is based across four locations in Guildford, Reigate, Leatherhead and Woking. Job location will be discussed further at interview.

About the role Surrey County Council is determined to transform the way it works. This includes how it provides support to people with a learning disability or autism. A new specialist practitioner team has been created, helped by an ambitious programme of investment in more independent housing schemes in our communities.

We are looking for capable and motivated professionals to assist with managing the new Adult Social Care countywide learning disabilities and autism team.

Within this role you will have the opportunity to assist with leading, motivating and managing a team ensuring the service provided is consistent, effective and delivers positive outcomes. Providing expert guidance to team members and others in situations of complexity, working as the allocated practitioner in specific cases. You will be part of the long term development of the Council's all age learning disability services.

Working alongside the team, you will develop effective relationships with individuals, their carers and families and a range of care providers, district and borough councils, health partners and the voluntary sector. By contributing to and supporting the development of best practice, including use of audit and quality assurance measures and delivery of training, you will empower team members to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence.

We are looking for someone with significant post qualification experience, including experience of supervising qualified social workers in a social care setting. You must hold a recognised Social Work, Occupational Therapy qualification (diploma or degree) with extensive post-qualification experience (usually a minimum of 4 years) in a social care or multi agency environment. If you are internal to SCC we will also accept a nursing qualification. You will be required to have current professional registration (for Social Workers and/or Occupational Therapists).

You will bring to the role a good understanding and commitment to the personalisation agenda and be able to demonstrate an applied knowledge of Adult Social Care legislation. To be successful in this role, your commitment in supporting carers and empowering people through direct payments will be crucial. You will have experience and knowledge of safeguarding adults.

Managing the team day to day, with recruitment, retention and line management responsibilities; provision of critically reflective professional supervision and management of the overall workload of the team, deputising for the team manager when required. Undertaking assessments, support planning and reviews. You will need to have competent IT skills and be able and willing to learn to use a variety of software systems. Applicants must be willing and able to work and travel across Surrey.
