Within our Global Information Services (GIS) division We have adopted a three line of defence model. Information Governance and Risk Management (IGRM) sits in the second line of defence. As such, it is responsible for information Governance and Risk Management as well as related education and training for both information professionals and all staff globally.

The opportunity:

As Director of Information Governance and Risk Management, you'll lead the British Council-wide Information Governance and Risk Management function (IGRM) enabling data and information assets, services and platforms to be appropriately used and protected.

You'll provide strategic direction for all aspects of information governance, engaged regularly with senior stakeholders to enable the global IGRM function to achieve its goals. Maintaining and continually developing governance structures to ensure the effective management of information related risk.

This role also undertakes the statutory role of Data Protection Officer for the British Council undertaking the tasks in Article 39 of the General Data Protection Regulation regarding the use and protection or personal data.

Requirements

It will be important for you to bring senior level experience of the following:

  • Leading successful Information Security, Governance and Information Risk Management Teams.

  • Building internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and senior colleagues.

  • Developing and implementing information governance strategies, objective and plans.

  • Leading the organisational IGRM culture change.

  • Lead day to day operational security functions.
