Hackney Council and City and Hackney Clinical Commissioning Group are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and ambitious communications professional to deliver strategic and operational communications for health for one of the UK's most diverse populations.
The successful candidate will be joining the organisations at an exciting and important time for City and Hackney's health aspirations, and will lead on creating and delivering the design and marketing, media relations, social media, and stakeholder engagement strategies for a range of campaigns and projects.
Though one of London's most vibrant and popular areas to live, work and visit, City and Hackney is also home to some of the country's most deprived communities. It has wide inequalities in health and high levels of child obesity, mental health issues, smoking, cardiovascular disease and cancer. The CCG, Council and their health partners will play a central role in tackling these issues, and effective and engaging communications will be essential to this.
The way health and care services are delivered in City and Hackney is undergoing an exciting transformation. The CCG, Hackney Council and the City of London Corporation, in partnership with a wide range of providers, have adopted a new 'Integrated Commissioning' model which sees them pool funding and work together to improve processes, services and outcomes for residents. At the heart of this transformation needs to be effective communications and meaningful engagement with residents and patients. The CCG Communications Manager will play a crucial, influential and leading role alongside other communications colleagues across a range of complex projects.
The post is formally part of Hackney Council's award-winning Communications, Culture and Engagement Team, which delivers a holistic communications service for City and Hackney CCG. The successful candidate will be based primarily with the CCG, and take direction from CCG colleagues. They will also spend time with Council colleagues to ensure a joined up approach to communications across local clinical health, public health, and adult and children's social care, and well as regional programmes associated with the East London Health and Care Partnership. Establishing good working relationships with colleagues from other organisations, and strong persuading and influencing skills, will be essential.
Applicants should have first class writing and proof-reading skills, experience of media relations and campaigns, a creative flair for design and marketing, and be able to give sound strategic and operational communications advice to senior colleagues and stakeholders across different organisations.
Experience in the public sector, NHS or other health setting is desirable but not essential, and candidates who can demonstrate a genuine passion in health issues will be viewed favourably. Experience of planning and supporting the delivery of public events is also welcome, but not essential.
