Our public realm division ensures Hackney remains clean, safe and accessible for residents, businesses and visitors. Within the division our parking and markets team manage parking on the street, in council car parks, and on selected Hackney Homes estates; the team also manage and regulate markets and shop front trading, including the administration of licences.

The parking and markets team now require a business processing officer to action incoming correspondence, answer calls, respond to queries, and conduct investigations. Your primary function is to action written challenges made against penalty charge notices at the informal, formal and appeal process.

This team handle a high volume of cases each year and this is a busy, target-driven role. As your responsibilities include the scrutiny of customer appeals and queries you must have sound investigative skills including the checking of all relevant evidence, and have the ability to make accurate decisions based on your findings. You will be able to collate, translate and convey information for a range of audiences and communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.

Previous parking appeals experience and working towards challenging targets is a must, and IT literacy in Word, Excel, Outlook and other systems essential. You will be adept at using the internet, have reached Grade C or above in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) and have sound communication and customer service skills. You will have good working knowledge of parking PCN databases and a flexible approach to working times, locations and methods.
