The printed items the Council produce are one of the most important ways residents and others get information about our services. We need someone who understands printing and finishing processes, but who also has excellent customer service skills, and is meticulous in a buying and administrative environment.
We handle requests for materials from across the Council so will need to help customers decide on the best options for the products they need. You will work to ensure highest quality, best price and good promotion of the Council brand. This is a busy unit so you will need to be organised and able to prioritise workloads often under pressure.
Where materials can't be produced in-house you will negotiate with external commercial printers. You should have proven print buying experience and a strong understanding of print techniques and the varieties of suppliers. You will often need to manage supply of branded merchandise and understand the requirements associated with this.
We need you to be flexible, work well under pressure, and prepared to help make sure deadlines are met. You should be confident enough to make sure suppliers give us excellent value and ensure your customers stick to Council guidelines. From time to time you will need to deal with documents that are sensitive or confidential.
Proven experience of financial systems are essential, and would be advantageous to have knowledge using CEDAR for managing procurement requirements, associated within a print buying environment. You must be proficient with operating different print equipment in a production environment where there will be varying levels of background noise. You should be able to use ICT packages such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Gmail and print management software such as Fiery and Prisma Prepare or similar digital printing and workflow systems.
The emphasis of this role is the experience of print, but a broad understanding of local Government would also be useful - particularly the current financial issues we face. It would also be advantageous if you have working knowledge of mail merge and bulk mailing solutions.
