Role Purpose

The Council has a 2022 blueprint for success and a programme of transformation activities to get us there; including a new civic centre, digital by default, service redesign and the development of our organisational culture. The structure and delivery of the Human Resources service has been reviewed to ensure that the organisation and our people are supported, developed and engaged throughout this change. A number of new roles have been created to lead these developments and support new ways of working across the Council.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Employee Relations and Project Manager on a fixed term contract for a period of 2 years, who will lead priority projects to support the transformation of the Council and the HR service.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the review of terms and conditions of employment to ensure a comparator offer with similar organisations, leading negotiations with trade unions, Elected Members, employees and senior leaders. You will be responsible for reviewing employee data and ensuring compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations. You will lead on the development of an Employee Relations Strategy and set of principles to ensure a productive and collaborative relationship with recognised trade unions.


To be successful in this role you will have significant knowledge/experience of employment law and the provision of effective HR advice and guidance on best practice and policy development. You will have demonstrable project management experience in a similar role and will be able to influence and challenge at the highest levels of the organisation.

This is a fixed term contract until 30th June 2020.
