Project Officer - Housing Strategy & Policy

GBP38,766 - GBP40,653 per annum (PO3)

Work Hours: 36 Hours per Week

Hackney is London's most diverse and dynamic borough. Stretching from the edge of the City, to the Queen Elizabeth Park, it is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in the tech, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green space than any other inner London borough, some of the capital's best schools, and first class transport connections, which combined with excellent local public services and a thriving arts, cultural and retail sector, are fast making it one of London's most popular areas to live, work and visit.

The challenge for Hackney is to make sure that the borough's economic growth provides benefits for everyone who lives here, and to create opportunities that will transform the lives of local people. We know that staff are key to our success and we are seeking people with ambition, creativity and commitment to our values to help us achieve the best for the people of Hackney.

A lack of genuinely affordable homes is a key concern for Hackney's residents, and addressing this is at the heart of the Council's work. That's why Hackney is building. The Council's Regeneration team is building thousands of new homes for social rent, shared ownership and outright sale at more than 30 sites across Hackney.

Hackney Council is at the forefront of local, regional and national housing policy development. Through our Better Renting campaign to improve the private rented sector, our public affairs work to influence government housing reforms and other work, we are shaping and leading regional and national housing policy and promoting high-quality, genuinely affordable housing in sustainable communities.

As a Project Officer in the Housing Strategy and Policy team, you'll work on innovative housing strategy, campaigns and policy, as well as drafting policy briefings and helping build a comprehensive evidence base. You will provide policy support which will involve working with the Council's corporate policy, housing needs, housing management, health and wellbeing teams, as well the Council's regeneration teams. You will be expected to work in a flexible way within a small team on a range of housing policy issues relating to housing need, housing supply, planning and investment issues and Council responses and submissions.

You'll come with a high level of oral, written and numerical skills and particularly the ability to analyse and summarise complex information succinctly, with the objective of delivering tangible change, promoting the objectives and policies of the Council and securing wider change.

You'll also have a track record of successfully engaging with colleagues and residents - building positive and productive working relationships.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation.
