Hackney Council is looking for a senior manager to lead a housing investment programme with a far-reaching impact. You will be helping us maximise investment in our housing assets so that our residents can be proud of their homes. This is an important part of our work to make Hackney a place for everyone.
Housing is a top priority in Hackney. Inner London is experiencing intense pressure on housing stock, with competing demands on space and a rapidly growing population. Hackney Council manages over 30,000 properties across the borough. Our Housing team work hard to maintain and improve safe, affordable homes for people who need them.
As Head of Asset Management, you will lead delivery of a GBPmulti-million investment programme. This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark - bringing creative ideas to help us improve procurement and delivery of our housing capital programme. You will strive to improve value, allowing us to invest further.
Day to day your work will involve oversight of numerous projects and complex mechanical and electrical operations. You will develop accurate records of the condition of our housing stock and advise on investment programmes. To thrive in this role, you will need to be a strategic thinker, able to set the direction for this service.
However, your most important responsibility will be to keep our residents safe. You will ensure all work is compliant with gas and electrical safety requirements, fire risk assessments, asbestos regulations and other legal requirements put in place to protect people.
You should be an astute project manager, keen to bring innovative ways to benefit from procurement opportunities. You will need solid experience of managing contracts to ensure the best outcomes. It is important that you can influence and develop productive working relationships at all levels. You will be working with a wide spectrum of stakeholders including politicians, senior leaders and partners, as well as being an important link for our leaseholders.
We need someone with a good track record in delivering housing capital programmes. You should have senior management experience, perhaps in another local authority, housing association or for a large contractor.
In this role, you will be managing a big team and a big budget. You must demonstrate that you can motivate and inspire others with a positive, approachable leadership style. You will need to empower your team to deliver a range of services on multiple, complex projects. On top of this you must deliver service improvements and stability - helping us reduce our agency spend through a proactive approach to staff recruitment and retention.
We need someone who knows the current policy issues around housing and asset management and has commercial acumen; who understands the complex issues surrounding procurement and capital investment; and who fully appreciates the challenges we face. A relevant technical qualification or equivalent would be beneficial.
Hackney is one of the UK's highest performing local authorities, serving one of London's best places to live and work. We have achieved a huge amount: our services, our schools, our public spaces are all amongst the very best. We have changed the reputation, not just of the Council, but of Hackney itself. Bringing jobs and investment into the borough, securing the legacy from 2012 Games, and making this a place of which we can all be proud.
