An opportunity has arisen for an experienced highways principal technical officer to join our innovative and skilled engineers within our drainage team.

Our drainage teams are responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the county's drainage and flood prevention measures, and consider the drainage implications of planning applications and development proposals.

About the role

The drainage team have an interesting and challenging workload in reducing flood risk across the county.

You will be responsible for investigating specialist drainage matters, particularly relating to the approval, vetting, adoption and maintenance of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and flooding in connection with proposed developments. You will carry out effective public consultation to generate better community understanding and support for drainage improvement and maintenance schemes.

The role will be mainly office based at our Chippenham depot initially but it will also involve some site activities around the county.

About you

We will look to you to have a proven drainage design qualities and the ability to deal with a high volume of planning applications and infrastructure proposals. You should be a chartered engineer and member of the institution of civil engineers or have extensive experience on drainage and related technical matters, working towards future chartered status.

Will have proven problem solving abilities, mediation and arbitration skills, along with substantial organisational, interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills, with the ability to work to tight and often challenging deadlines.

You must have good ICT skills including the use of Microsoft applications and specialist systems including GIS mapping, AutoCAD, Microdrainage/Windes, HEC-RAS.
