Hackney is London's most diverse, dynamic borough. Reaching from the Square Mile to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in technology, media, fashion and other creative industries. Hackney has more green spaces than any other inner London borough; some of the capital's finest schools; first class transport connections; excellent public services; and thriving arts, cultural and retail sectors. We seek people with ambition, creativity and commitment to ensure our economic growth provides benefits for everyone and creates opportunities to transform the lives of residents.

As part of significant change across the health landscape, responsibility for delivery of Public Health transferred to Local Authorities in April 2013. Hackney Council has welcomed a range of new responsibilities - including commissioning across sexual health, substance misuse, mental health, health checks and healthy weight.

Led by our Director of Public Health with their senior team, the Hackney Public Health Service is at the forefront in securing improvements in health outcomes and reducing health inequalities for residents.

This is an exciting time to join the service which has the autonomy and resources to make a real difference for local people, providing better, more efficient and cost-effective solutions for the delivery of Public Health within a local authority context.

As Public Health Commissioning Manager, your experience of procurement and contract management, preferably within a local authority or NHS context, along with your interpersonal and negotiation skills are what we are looking for. You will have experience of managing tenders and leading procurements including writing business cases, reviewing specifications and reports for Senior Managers and Members, as well as establishing and operating contracts and service agreements. Your understanding of the law in relation to procurement and ability to manage projects and people to ensure that deadlines and requirements are met are essential. As well as having a deep understanding of the key issues facing local government relating to the commissioning of public health service you will have a proven track record in taking the initiative and driving work both autonomously, and through teams.

At Hackney, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high profile organisation.
