Independent Complaints Panel Member

The Portman Group is the social responsibility organisation for drinks producers. As the alcohol industry watchdog, we regulate the promotion and packaging of alcohol through respected Codes of Practice.

Complaints under these Codes are determined by an Independent Complaints Panel. The membership of this Panel is diverse and independent from the Portman Group, representing a wide range of backgrounds and experience.

We are seeking a new Panel member to replace a member whose term of appointment is ending shortly.

In order to keep a balance of expertise and experience, we require someone with legal knowledge and/or licensing background (the applicant does not need to be a qualified barrister or solicitor). We would also be interested in applicants who have gained licensing experience in a local authority environment.

Panel members are required to have sound judgement; good communication and listening skills; a reasonable awareness of alcohol issues; a balanced view of alcohol’s role in society; and to be genuinely independent and objective in their thought and approach.

The Panel meets a minimum of six times a year in Central London. Members receive an annual honorarium of £4k and are reimbursed for reasonable expenses.
