Head of Service - Family Intervention and Support

Children and Families Service

SM1 - GBP76,000 - GBP82,000

Children and Families Services in Hackney are on an exciting journey of innovation. With a strong track record of delivering high quality services, we are committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for all.

Our Children and Families directorate is evolving creatively - our new structure encourages collaboration across the Council and beyond. We know that it's through working together that we can maximise our achievements.

We are looking for an outstanding leader for our Family Intervention and Support service (which encompasses our Access, Assessment and Children in Need services). As Head of Service, you will lead a team of highly competent and committed practitioners. We are proud of our excellent retention rates and we are keen for you to continue to ensure that staff feel supported, whilst driving forward best practice and providing high-quality, responsive services.

You will need a strong practice and theory base and be able to use your expertise to promote highly effective support for children and families. You must be able to inspire others and have a clear understanding of the political and social context within which we operate. You must share our inherent values of respect for the children and families we work with and a collaborative ethos.

Our Children and Families Service are among the best in the UK. We are proud of the excellent outcomes achieved for our looked after children - including outstanding GCSE results with high numbers going on to university. Early help, youth work, statutory social work, domestic abuse services and our in-house clinical service are integrated within our Children and Families Service to provide a holistic support offer to children and young people.

Over recent years we have become renowned for innovation. From Reclaiming Social Work to Contextual Safeguarding, we have challenged norms and carved new paths. We value systemic leadership and encourage devolved decision-making at all levels - with senior managers working alongside front-line staff. Our staff are given excellent development opportunities, including through our leadership of the North London Social Work Teaching Partnership and we are currently working hard to become the first local authority to provide post-graduate qualifications in systemic practice.

Hackney is London's most diverse and dynamic borough, stretching from the City to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We have excellent local services and a thriving cultural sector, making this one of London's most popular areas to live, work and visit. Our challenge is to ensure Hackney's economic growth leaves no-one behind and that we harness opportunities to transform the lives of local people.

We know that staff are key to our success and we are seeking people with ambition, creativity and commitment to help us achieve the best for the people of Hackney. Our expectations are high, in return we offer the opportunity to gain broad experience in an innovative environment.

If you share our values and are ready to be part of our exciting journey, please visit our website.
