Policy Manager

GBP39,800 - GBP46,823 per annum (subject to experience)

About us:

Our purpose is to protect the public by regulating dental professionals in the UK. All dentists, dental nurses, dental technicians, clinical dental technicians, dental hygienists, dental therapists and orthodontic therapists must be registered with us to work in the UK, so the support and experience of our dedicated and highly focused teams is invaluable. This is your chance to build on your own skills and experience and make a worthwhile contribution to our work.

About the role:

The role will be contributing to the development of the General Dental Council's corporate and strategic policy agenda. It will help to ensure that the GDC's corporate and strategic approach is consistent with the principles of 'right touch regulation' and with the aim of protecting patients and the public. It will also be to help shape the future of dental regulation in the UK through developing ideas, commissioning research, working with external stakeholders and responding to consultations.

About you:

Your role will be to acquire and apply policy expertise in a range of agreed regulation policy areas to contribute to GDC regulatory policy development. You will be required to identify risks in the external environment which require policy consideration. You will also be responsible for developing and implement project plans for complex regulation policy development projects, where appropriate.

It is essential that you have experience of policy development in a complex environment. You will need the ability to work collaboratively to develop evidence-based policy to support the achievement of organisational objectives. You will have experience of working with others to understand the potential impact and implications of emerging strategy and policy and to develop risk-mitigation strategies where necessary. The ability to understand complex information and communicate this in an accessible way to a range of audiences is fundamental to the role, as is having the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.

The GDC is committed to equality and diversity. We encourage and support the recruitment, retention and career development of people from as wide a range as possible of ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds.

Benefits:

To reward you for your hard work and commitment, we offer an attractive benefits package that includes a generous pension scheme, flexi-time and 25 days' annual leave (not inclusive of bank holidays), rising to 28 days after 5 years' service.
