About the role
This is a unique opportunity to really make a change for the vulnerable children of Camden.
The successful Head of Service will take strategic and operational management responsibility for the children's quality assurance service in relation to delivering high quality services for children in need, children in need of protection and children looked after. You will be required to have a detailed working knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and standards in order to make frequent high level decisions that impact on key areas of safeguarding children in Camden. This includes making decisions in relation to casework with families and complex issues. In addition you will be required to monitor the quality of decision making about safeguarding across the full range of council and multiagency children's services.
You will need to be a fully qualified, accredited social work professional (CQSW, Dip SW, CSS or PQCSS) and have current registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council. You must have extensive post qualifying experience within a relevant professional field.
You need to have extensive knowledge of Children's Social Care Statutory frameworks, knowledge of the underlying causes of vulnerability and effective safeguarding practice to assess risk and reduce harm, knowledge of equality & diversity practice and the capability to apply it to work with children, young people and their families.
It's essential that you have extensive case management experience of working with complex, professional and ethical issues including child protection, court proceedings, case conferences and other formal processes. You'll also need to have substantial experience of multi-agency work at a senior manager/leadership level.
