As the main point of contact to support the Leader of the Council and the Cabinet members of one of London’s most dynamic and forward thinking councils, you’ll be expected to bring forward new ideas and innovative approaches to deliver Camden’s priorities. We’re looking for an individual who can think creatively, use personal initiative to plan effectively, and work with colleagues to help realise the Council’s strategic objectives.
Using your excellent time management skills and clear judgement, you’ll proactively advise and support the Leader and Cabinet in the review and development of the administration’s priorities and initiatives so that these contribute to achieving the vision of the Leader resulting in improved outcomes for local people.
Working both independently and collaboratively in conjunction with Strategy and Change, you’ll research new policy approaches and develop thinking in order to provide ideas and advice to the Leader on a variety of specialist areas.
While this is not a political role, you will use your knowledge of the political environment and current political issues to spot sensitive/difficult issues and ensure they are managed appropriately and relevant issues and their linkages are highlighted in a timely manner to the Leader. You will ensure that the Leader’s- office provides the Leader with first class support enabling her to establish and deliver Camden’s policy priorities.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working in a fast-paced, high profile support environment, with proven experience of working with multiple stakeholders, including senior officials and partners. You’ll need to be resilient and flexible enough to deal with dealing with sometimes conflicting, requirements. Using your strong visionary skills, you’ll be able to identify new opportunities and different ways of delivering improvement. You’ll have clear communication skills and the ability to engage and inspire a number of stakeholders both internally and externally. You’ll have excellent organisation skills and the ability to effectively multi-task and respond to the changing priorities of the Leader and the Cabinet as well as the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, applying the highest standards of tact and discretion. You must also have an exceptional eye for detail, vital for the delivery of accurate, logical and considered judgements. Appreciation of confidentiality requirements within the workplace is essential. Current knowledge and understanding of the national and local political environment will also help you to fulfil requirements of this role, enabling you to go above and beyond where possible.
