Wokingham with a resident population of around 32,000, is a chartered market town located some 7 miles south of Reading. The Council is located in the town centre within a classic red bricked Victorian town hall built in 1860 which has undergone an extensive refurbishment programme over the last few years. Apart from providing the usual services from an overall budget of £850K, there is a thriving Farmers’ market, 7 parks to maintain, a community centre, village hall, allotments and income from a variety of sources to manage. The Town Council upholds ceremonial traditions via its civic function and has had a Mayor since 1885.
