Oldham Council: About the Council
Oldham Council delivers services for the people of the Borough with an annual budget of about £500 million.
The work of the Council is undertaken by five directorates which are answerable to the Cabinet of the Council. An Arms Length Management Organisation is responsible for the management and upkeep of the Council's housing stock.
The Cabinet is the decision making body of the Council and acts in line with the policy framework and budget of the Council. Overview and Scrutiny Commissions exist which can question decisions taken by the Cabinet and help in policy development.
A Standards Committee, Audit Committee, Licensing Committee, Planning Committee and Appeals Committee complete the municipal decision-making structure.
The Council also has 6 District Partnerships which make decisions about the strategic priorites for each respective area. The District Partnerships are supported by Ward Forums which allow local people to put forward their priorities for the area in which they live, suggest improvements and have their say on how services are run on a local basis.
